Fans View – Arsenal’s Transfer market activity.

(This article has been submitted by Richard Lee, an arsenal fan from London)

Arsenal’s lack of activity in the transfer market so far has been frustrating for fans. There’s nothing in the newspapers or an official word from AW but I have a feeling that we might not see any more signings this summer. Its more likely that we might see few departures. We did have problems in the midfield last season especially in the defensive midfielder role but Wenger gave us a hint that he might not sign a defensive midfielder this season. He employed Samir Nasri in that role towards the end of last season after questions were raised about Alex Song and Denilson’s efectiveness. Also the arrival of Andrei Arshavin and full fitness of Tomas Rosicky would limit Nasri’s opportunities on the left wing and Wenger would be tempted to use him as a defensive midfielder. This is a possibility since Wenger is also quite keen to prove that these set of players could deliver success. With Adebayor all set to stay and Eduardo available we are well covered in the strike department too.So I don’t see any signings in these areas.

On the other hand we might see a few departures from Emirates this season. Mikael Silvestre and Senderos look the most probable departures with Bordeaux and Roma expressing their interest. With the arrival of Thomas Vermaelen we can afford to offload one of the two defenders.Mikael is one man all fans would be happy to see go.Its a bit harsh but he really hasn’t done anything to prove otherwise.Another player who could be heading towards exit is Armand Traore. He was sent on loan last year and with the emergence of Kieran Gibbs as a worthy back up for Gael Clichy it might just be the end of the U-21 frenchman’s stay at Emirates. It would be good business for us since Traore’s value has risen after his stint with Portsmouth. I wouldn’t even mind Aaron Ramsey or Jack Wilshere going out on loan this season since they would surely lack first team football. Having said all that we do have enough depth in the squad to succeed . Barring any really long time injuries to players we have enough in the team to challenge for honours. Like all fans I am as optimistic as ever this season and looking forward to some real football.
