PV/Chamakh/Hangeland-Still hang in the balance

Everyday i get up with a new sense of hope and excitement of actually seeing Arsenal sign some-one.Last couple of days have been quite depressing since we were not even rumoured to be going for anyone. Today it’s different there are stories about Chamakh closing in on a move to Arsenal and Hangeland to Arsenal. These are old rumours but i like them to be around just to get a feeling that something might happen. With the hope comes a fear of again losing out on potential players like in the case of Melo,Cana,Huntelaar and Alonso (last summer) but i think i should have gotten used to this by now after all I am an Arsenal fan.

So while i was happy about Arsenal being linked to some players again, i was also disappointed to read about Patrick Vieira thinking of staying put.It really concerns me that Arsenal don’t dominate the midfield like they used to during the days of Vieira,Gilberto Silva or even Flamini. Song and Denilson have not quite been upto the mark and I fear that’s going remain the case this year.I still remember how Denilson was run over by Ballack and Lampard in the FA CUP semi-final and i fear it could repeat this year. While Song does seem to have the strength to fight it out in the midfield, Denilson is still miles from being anyhere close to the next Gilberto Silva for us. Not that i expected Patrick Vieira to come in and play like the old days but he could surely have provided some thing extra in the midfield. Since there is still time I would not completely believe reports that he will not join us.

Talking of Chamakh, after watching him play against Lens the other day I have started to believe that he could be a good signing for us. He is hard working ,some one like Flamini who runs around trying to win the ball and score. Although he still needs polish his striking boots he still looks like he could make it at Arsenal.

Having said that our main problem still lies in the defence. Although Almunia doesn’t seem to mind the lack of height at the back I still feel that if a 40 year old outjumps and scores there is something wrong with the defence. So could Gallas and Hangeland be our answer to Rio and Vidic? Not sure but it does make for an interesting pairing at the back.

I still think we won’t be seeing any signing before the season starts and may be Wenger just wants to make sure we qualify for the CL and then we could be in a position to negotiate and deal with players.

So till then…

Cheers and Keep Gunning!

Yes even i like the look of Chamakh…not sure about Hangeland. While he certainly has the height and mind of a good defender he lacks the speed. Arsenal play a high line and with his speed hell be out run by the likes of Drog and Torres easily. I’d rather have some one like Zapata or Sakho come in.

I wish your prediction is true. I really hope Wenger uses the bloody cash. It’s high time now
