A Fresh Start – Arsenal Ready To Kick Start Their Campaign- Arsenal vs Swansea

September 8, 2011 1 comment

The 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United seems ages ago. Since then the club has added players like Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Mertsacker, Park and Santos while players like Traore and Bendtner have left the club, the latter on loan to Sunderland. You can’t help but get the feel of a fresh start and a new team to start playing from the one we witnessed in August. With departures of Cesc and Nasri and the defeats to Liverpool and Manchester United there was a sense of gloom over the club which seems to have now changed into renewed hope of a good run in the league and cup competitions. The International break couldn’t have come at a better time. The players went away for 10 days to reflect on their performances and also put behind the result at Old Trafford.

The International games also provided a few of our players to get back in form, namely Robin Van Persie who scored 4 against San Marino, Ramsey playing well for Wales the other day, Mertsacker and Yossi getting valuable match practice playing for their countries.

From the looks of it seems like Mertsacker and Mikel Arteta will have to hit the ground running in the absence of Vermaelen and Jack Wilshere. Call it poor management or bad luck we need to get behind the team now and make the (new) players feel comfortable straight away.

The break has been kind to us and all our players have returned in good fitness and no injuries/knocks as such. With 35 games still to play, the players will quickly have to get back to their best and start piling up points and get back up the table. I wouldn’t look too much into the results against Liverpool and Manchester United since those were our toughest games and the league isn’t won by beating you rivals, its won by how you play against the other 16 teams. Keep in mind Manchester United won the league a couple of seasons ago by defeating their top 4 rivals only once. So there’s still hope.

The team for the home game against Swansea should see a lot of debuts with Santos, Mertsacker and Arteta all in line for a start. We should get three points comfortably but you can never write off promoted teams at this stage of the season, remember Hull and WBA? So it will be interesting to see if we go for a win or we go out guns blazing and hoping to improve out goal difference.

I’m going for a 3-0 win to the Arsenal with Robin,Arshavin and Ramsey scoring.

Line Up Prediction:
Sagna Koscielny Mert Santos
Frimpong Ramsey
Chamberlain Arshavin
Robin Van Persie

Go Gunners!

So I’ve been kept away from the internet for some time and haven’t had the chance to update the blog but now I’m back and just in time for the Big games coming up! I hope Tomas Rosicky and Nasri could say so. Anyway coming back on track, the morale and mood at Emirates is high as ever. 3 wins out of 3, CL qualification almost certain and most players in hot form. The only sad part is that the Spuds are on top.

All eyes are on Wenger to see if he digs his hand in his pocket and finally buy some new players. Arshavin thinks that he needs to and I have been saying the same thing whole summer but Wenger is the one incharge and let’s wait and watch.Sadly the Hangeland,Vieira and Chamakh rumours have died down and it’s all gone all quiet on the Senderos front too. It could only mean that Wenger is content with the players he has or has a surprise up his sleeve. Can’t really know that with Wenger but i’ll give him the benefit of the doubt till 1st September.Blaise Matuidi seems to be the one who could be one of the new faces although Wenger wouldn’t come out and declare that. So it’s just wait and watch for us fans.

On the pitch there have been a few surprising results already this season. Burnley have stunned ManUtd and Everton while Liverpool have already lost 2 games out of 3. Luckily we haven’t lost yet and have also played a game less and have a great goal difference at the moment. Too early to predict but it’s going to be the most competitive and open PL title chase this season. Burnley look like the giant killers like Hull were last time, the Spuds are soaring high and Chelsea are on track too. ManUtd and Liverpool, well you can never reall count them down and out.I hate to say it but ManCity could spring a surprise or two this season so it’s important for Arsenal to keep their feet on the ground and keep the good work going all season. One lapse is all that can turn things around this time and I hope it never happens to us.

Next up is the return leg of the CL clash with Celtic and then the big game against ManUtd at OT. I hope Fab is fit in time for the latter clash while Ramsey can fit in for Fab for the Celtic game. I don’t think we’ll give it away to Celtic but anything can happen in football.

I’m confident though.

We’ll have a Match Preview,Squad Prediction and Score prediction for tomorrows game up in the morning so check back and make your predictions too!

Till then

Another ‘Arshavin like’ signing on the cards? and Arsenal vs Celtic in CL..

Arsenal fans should ready themselves for another last minute signing as Wenger revealed his transfer plans in a press conference last evening.

“We can still make do with one or two players more. One could be in the defensive areas, and one in the attacking areas. We make a few enquires for players, but we are nowhere near to signing anybody at the moment. Usually the transfer market only speeds up from August 26 up to midnight on August 31 – and especially in the last two hours.”

Now we have a better idea of what to expect from Wenger this summer. Chamakh is the player heading the players list for  “attacking area”. Chamakh would only be a luxury signing but we all know Wenger’s addiction to attacking football. A DM and CB is what we need the most but now that he has revealed his plans we should expect just one of the two. A CB looks more likely with Senderos almost certain to leave before the season starts. Wenger did give a hint that he would be interested Hangeland if Senderos left which could only be good news for Arsenal fans. Senderos is a good player but we would rather have a tall and no-nonsense defender like Hangeland in. I really don’t see the reason to wait till the last week when we have our targets set and money in hand. But again it’s Wenger and Arsenal we are talking about and i am sure not many fans would be surprised if went to the wire or even a day after the window closed.

Also he’s been quite relaxed on the PV front too which doesn’t sound too good. So we should be ready for another season of Song and Denilson  and Diaby in the midfield. Oh! Diaby is injured too!..

In the CL draw Arsenal will face Celtic in their qualification for the group stages. It’s not going to be easy but even with the current sqaud i think we have enough quality to go through. If Not…It’s not going to be sunny at Emirates this season.

Next up is Arsenal vs Valencia which should be a good game before the season starts.

Till then

‘New Signing’ injured? Please No! + Other Arsenal news..

August 6, 2009 Leave a comment

The summer keeps getting worse for Arsenal fans. No signings yet, players injured already and potential signings slipping out of sight.

There is another thing to worry about for Arsenal fans. All the hype about Tomas Rosicky’s return may be over as there are unconfirmed reports suggesting that the Arsenal star could be out for 5 weeks after his latest setback. I really pray those reports do not get confirmed and that we have Rosicky fit and raring to go like before. But again such is the injury record of the guy that few would bet against the news being true. No official word yet so i just want to believe that he will start against Everton. With Nasri injured and Arsenal really lacking experience we cannot afford another injury to Tomas. So if the reports are true Wenger has lost his so called ‘new signing’ of the summer. Will he buy now? Your guess is as good as mine….

Talking of setbacks, Klass Huntelaar is set to sign for Milan so all fans who were hoping to see him in an Arsenal shirt be ready to be disappointed. Not that it really matters seeing our attacking options but going by Zinedine Zidane’s words Arsenal did put in a bid for Huntelaar. So another one bites the dust and the list of players we could have signed grows. Melo,Cana,Huntelaar….. There might be a few more additions to that list before the window closes.

In other news Arsenal are back in for Chamakh. I don’t see the reason for adding another striker before actually addressing our main problem in defence and midfield. Even a 7 year old Arsenal fan knows that a beast like CB and DM is what we need right now. So Why is Wenger not realising this? Well what-ever it is the frustration for Arsenal fans keeps growing.

What about PV and Matuidi? It’s gone all quiet on that front which is not a good sign. Cmon Wenger wake up! Wake up! We are a lot weaker than last year and the squad keeps shrinking. It’s about time we made some drastic moves in the market or else this season will be no different than the last 4 seasons.

Still i will keep hoping for a miracle…and as usual hope for some silverware in the coming season!

Lets see if there is some activity in the transfer market from Arsenal’s side ( which means signing players and not selling)

Till then..

At Emirates – Defenders For Sale. Hurry! Offers lasts till 1st September.

August 4, 2009 Leave a comment

So much to be an Arsenal fan during a summer transfer market. It just can’t get anymore frustrating. Can it? Arsenal are set to lose their 3rd player and 2nd defender this summmer according to the Swiss FA.Senderos reportedly has agreed a move to Everton but it is yet to be confirmed by either clubs. I seriously don’t know what is going on in Wenger’s mind right now. In his last interview Wenger said that he had a lot of attacking options and it was the defence which needed to be sorted out. So selling defenders is the solution to that?? With Eboue’s future also uncertain it is sure to give Arsenal fans some headache. And still going by reports in the newspapers Arsenal will sign Kalou from Chelsea.

Off all the top 4 teams last season Arsenal had the worst defensive record and i don’t see that changing this season if we don’t sign a really good defender. While Wenger is sure to come up with a replacement (from within the team or buying someone) i really hope he knows what he is doing. Seeing the pre-season fixtures, we still haven’t learned how to defend set pieces and are really vulnerable after taking the lead. Same mistakes being repeated again and again and yet we don’t bring in a good defender. A no-nonsense defender, extremely good in air and reading the game should be topping the “To-Buy” list right now. I don’t mind seeing Senderos go if Wenger brings in someone with “good defending” listed as a profession on his profile.

On to other news today, Arsenal are reportedly close to signing Kalou. While Wenger’s admiration for the Ivorian is quite well known i believe it is just a ploy to make Bourdeaux lower their evaluation of Chamakh. But either signing would be welcomed by Arsenal fans since we really haven’t had anything to talk about this summer. Ofcourse a striker/attacking player would be a luxury signing  but it’s a CB and a hardtackling DM we need urgently. Just hope Wenger knows what he is doing and i am able to say “In Arsene We Trust” come 1st september.

I think we’ll have a lot of action in the transfer market this week. More as an when something develops..

Till then

Cheers and Keep Gunning!:)

‘It’s my way or the highway’….+ Good business, now for some buying please!!

Good Morning Gooners!!

It was quite an eventful evening yesterday. Kolo Toure passed a medical and was unveiled as a ManCity player while Arsenal won their pre-season fixture against Hannover (1-0).

So Kolo is out and going by the events at the end of the Hannover game it looks like Eboue is also on his way out too. Say what you like about Wenger but you got to applaud the man for one thing. The players allowed to leave this season are the ones which were causing problems in the dressing room and unhappy about something or the other. While ‘you know who’ was a bad influence in the dressing room, Kolo was not getting along with our best defender Gallas and Eboue was unhappy at not being in the starting line up often. So Wenger has made it clear that ‘Its my way or the highway’.

But having said that it’s time for Wenger to actually make a statement to the other clubs as well. It’s about time we spent some money and bought quality players. I remeber Wenger saying “We have 7 CB’s in the team ….”etc. Mr Wenger its quality and not quantity that matters(I wouldn’t even count Silvestre as a CB). Now that we have money to spend and we could get a couple of good players in before the season starts.I hope he does or it will be another disappointing season at The Emirates.

About the game last evening. It was a quite comfartable 1-0 win for the team. Fabregas’ goal scoring return the only highlight of the game. The squad returns to london today and will be gearing up for the Emirates Cup which will be a sterner test for the team and Wenger. Also expect some activity in the transfer market since the squad is back in London and have had the much needed boost in bank balance.

Before i sign off, a word on PV and rumours about Wenger trying to bring him to Arsenal. Well if Schumacher can return to F1 to help his team Ferrari …Why can’t Vieira return to help us…!! Even if its a way to stop him from going to Sp*ds i think it would be a good deal for the club. Like i said in one of my earlier posts PV still has a few years left in him and would be great for the development of Song,Diaby and Denilson. He might not be the same player he once was but his experience would help the team on and off the field.

On that though..I sign off…More as an when something interesting crops up…

Till then..

Pre-season + ‘Ins & Outs’ + Vermaelen…

Dudu fires as Nikki continues fine form…

Szombatheyli 0-  5 Arsenal

Bendtner (17) & (44)

Eduardo (24) & (39)

Van Persie (66)(p)

Eduardo and Nikki B each bagged a brace as Arsenal beat Szombatheyli, 5-0 in their pre-season fixture. With rumours about Kolo Toure on his way to Manchester City already, it was pleasing for some fans to see the Ivorian in the starting XI.Eduardo also returned to the starting line-up clearing all doubts regarding his fitness. Young Italian Vito Manone started in goal in place of Manuel Almunia for the 1st half. Arsenal were not at their best in the opening minutes but soon found their goal scoring touch when Bendtner nodded home a precise Traore cross to put the visitors ahead. Eduardo then scored in the 24th minute showing just how clinical he can be in front of goal. Dudu then scored from a free kick and Nikki added his second as Arsenal turned the screws on their opponents. The score at half time read a flattering 4-0 to the visitors. As expected, a number of changes were made at half time with RVP and Arshavin coming on to add more firepower. Unfortunately there were not many goals in the second half but RVP did score from the spot to seal off a comfortable win. Arsenal thus continued their good pre-season form with Nicklas Bendtner surely raising expectations in the coming season. With Nikki B re-iterating his desire to stay at Arsenal I think he’s ready to step up and be counted this term. Cheers to the Gunners!

Although a sterner test awaits the Gunners in the Emirates Cup, which will be their last opportunity to get some match fitness and form before the season. Ramsey, Diaby, Nicklas Bendtner have all shown good form and I am sure they will have a greater role to play once the season begins and as Arsenal look to end the trophy drought.  With Arsenal not yet done with their transfer dealings it remains to be seen which players will feature in the Emirates Cup but the players sure to be playing a part are Fabregas, Theo and Rosicky which will surely make it all the more interesting.

Ins and Outs

The rumoured ‘Outs’ are Toure and Eboue  with Toure looking increasingly likely to leave this week. There’s nothing official yet but the rumours circulating are surely indicating that. On the other hand the ‘Ins’  would be appealing to the fans as Arsenal are hunting for Huntelaar. Not a word on it by Wenger as usual but it is still something to look forward to in the transfer market. As happy as I am for Eduardo’s return and form I still want Wenger to invest in a striker. Although going by the look of things, ie Nikki B , Dudu and RVP’s form in pre-season and also having Arshavin and Vela to fill in as a striker I just think Wenger might be tempted not to spend on one. If not I hope he does on  a DM and a CB (if Toure leaves). Cattermole is being touted as a possible signing which could be worth the shot. Although I am not a fan of having another not-so experienced midfielder coming in.

“I can be good in the EPL”

Thomas Vermaelen thinks that he can really be a hit in the English game. Even though critics and Arsenal great Tony Adams have said that Thomas lacks the height to make it. Going by his words I think Arsenal have found the answer to their defensive problems.

“I’m not so tall, I know. So you have to be good at reading the game. But I think my heading game is good. I have a good jump and that’s positive if you are a centre-back. On the field its very important to be smart and thinking all the time. I will always give 100percent whether in games or training. In terms of attributes, I think I am decent in the air and technically, and I always want to battle on the pitch.”

Wise words from a wise man. Looking forward to seeing more of our new signing.

Till then…
